The Pantagraph's Holiday Spectacular, now in its eighth year, is Central Illinois' premier holiday theatrical event and the perfect way for families to celebrate the season. This year's show is all new and will be presented in the elegant Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts. It features the best of our local talent in a show that uniquely reflects our area. Come see a cast of 150 as they act, sing, dance and tell a holiday story about the magic of giving. Be astonished by the precision of the Wooden Soldiers and the tapping Raggedy Ann dolls. See the Nativity story in a fresh new way. Enjoy the Christmas musical standards and some new songs, too, presented by our soloists and ensemble groups. Santa, Frosty and many, many more - they'll all be on stage in the 2009 Holiday Spectacular.
This year's story is about the wonder of giving. Wondrous things happen in Mr. Mitnick's Emporium as people are moved to give gifts of the heart. Under Mr. Mitnick's watchful eye, old recordings of Bing Crosby, Merle Haggard and Burl Ives are recreated, gifts for an Adopt-a-Family come to life, and a poor boy and his mother find a new home. At the same time, everyone in town is getting ready for the "Frosty Follies" and comic mayhem breaks out again and again as crazy old Mrs. Knockwursty cleans out her attic, teenagers Uma and Luna discover an old LP record won't fit in a laptop, and Miss Diva Bling and Mr. Roberta Fortunato have an operatic duel.
In the end, the town comes together and even Franny and Trombone, two nerdy Emporium employees, find their voice in a truly Spectacular way.
