Recording guidelines
- Camera/Computer
- Modern phones tend to have better microphones and cameras than laptops
- If using a computer/laptop, plug in microphones work better than built-in
- Lighting
- Light from the front, not behind
- Brighter/Natural light is better
- Make sure there is a nice big light source hitting your face
- Nice, big window light hitting your face is ideal
- No windows behind you (it will turn you into a silhouette)
- No lights directly above your head (it will turn you into a raccoon)
- Don't stand too close to the wall or you get shadows.
- Recording Video
- Film horizontally/landscape
- Flat, plain background is better, stand close to the wall
- Frame up the camera level to be slightly above your eye line (have another person help you with thtis if needed).
- Stack books or use a tripod to get your camera to the appropriate level
- Recording Vocals
- Listen to the performance track on earbuds/headphones
- The microphone should only hear your voice, not the track
- Use a second device to listen to the audio
- If you have trouble hearing yourself sing, remove one earbud/headphone
- Sing out as much as you can, don't worry about being too loud
- Perform like you would on stage!
- After Recording
- After you're done recording, watch yourself!
- Adjust lighting if needed/move camera closer or further away if needed
- If you make a mistake, that's ok! You can record again!
- When you're happy with it, upload video to Google Form here:
